Bike Riding

Happy Spring!

With the warmer weather, we got the girls' bikes off the garage ceiling....oh my....in the L-O-N-G Wisconsin winter, the girls grew A LOT...they looked like clowns riding their bikes.

So, we've been bike shopping...the big girls are VERY excited for this week when Grammie and Grampy come to visit--they are treating the girls to new bikes! Thank you Grammie and Grampy!!!!

Ellie, of course, knows how to ride a 2 wheeler--she's quite the rider; she loves it. But Jayna? She had NO desire to want to learn to ride without training wheels--she was very scared. Andy worked with her a little last spring, around Colin's birth--it was rough. So, we put away OUR desires for her to ride without training wheels and let her grow a bit.

When Jayna found out that her grandparents were visiting and that she was getting a new bike, she was also told that her new bike would NOT have training wheels! So, last night, we prepped her for the 'fun' of learning to ride a bike. Imagine all of our disappointment this morning when we woke up to snow covering the ground and sidewalks!

But, the sun came out and by noon, we were ready--we lowered the seat on Ellie's old bike and set out for a good work out--bending over while running back and forth. OUCH. Jayna did pretty good, but she was exausted. She took a quick break for a short nap and then we went out to work with her again--the rest did her wonders and she pretty much took right off!

We are so proud of her determination and excited for family bike rides this summer. Since we have a buggy, we'll put Ava and Colin in the buggy and then the rest of us will ride our 2 wheelers!

As a 'gift' for learning to ride, I told Jayna I would make her whatever she wanted--a special dinner, dessert--whatever. She picked strawberry pie!

Now...if only we could figure out HOW AVA forgot how to ride the trike over the winter....was it THAT long of a season?!

OH WOW JAYNA!!!! This is so amazing. You are really riding all by yourself. I know you will have such a fun summer on your bike with the family. I know that stawberry pie was the only choice you would make for your special meal. I bet it was tasty! Lots of love to you.

Way to go Jayna! You look so happy as you ride! What a great mom for making you strawberry pie!

Jetta says, "Wow, she's good!"

(I thought for sure there would be a video of Ava trying to ride the trike. Just the thought of her "forgetting" how to ride it makes me smile.)

Good job Jayna!
We got the bikes out, too, and I've been trying to teach Hope how to ride a 2 wheeler...she's our first, so do you have any pointers?
