Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend was a 4 day weekend for Andy...he started his weekend out attending the kindergarten field trip with Ava...and he was exhausted when he returned home (let's face it...who among us is not exhausted after chaperoning a field trip?!?!?!). BUT...we had determined that we'd finally do Colin's room! So after dinner, he started removing light switches and filling holes...and Saturday, in 1/2 a day, he finished Colin's room! It was record timing, for sure!

We had hit a road block with Colin's room--we loved his room from the old house, but it was a bit babyish and Andy told me "I'm never doing horizontal stripes again!"...and we himmed and hawed....and himmed and hawed some more and determined that no one went in his room except us, so why not leave it plain until we knew for sure what color and theme?!

November 2010....we had Colin's photo taken with his "gee-tar"..after all, he had already broken 1 guitar, we better catch the photo while we still could! Portraits remained in the photo envelope for months.

February 2011....we found the neatest guitar pictures at a local store. They went in the corner of our bedroom on the floor....for months....collecting dust. We still couldn't decide on a color!

May 2011...I went into Hobby Lobby for party plates and stumbled upon the gold mine of classy guitar decor! Amazing guitar lamp and wire guitar wall hanging. Those items catapulted us into "let's get this done now"!

Above, you'll see the wall of guitars, the wire guitar and lamp, 1/2 the room and Colin painting...his 1st time painting! He loved it, he thought he got to paint the WHOLE room (ooopppsss...no way!) and informed us that he painted a rainbow on his walls!

We're still waiting on a few things, but the room is almost done and now we can move onto the next project.....which is....TBD!

Yesterday, Memorial Day, was HOT!
In fact, we really haven't had hot weather this year yet! I was ironing Jayna's school shorts on Saturday night and realized that here we are at the end of school, and she's worn those shorts maybe 3 times this spring. Crazy!

However, the hot weather yesterday meant that the kids had a blast!
One highlight was putting the sprinkler under the trampoline. The screams of happiness were very audible throughout the back yard!
The caption on this photo speaks for itself....if you can't read it, click on the photo to enlarge:

And Colin was in heaven--no nap to be taken and a full day playing in the pool and with water. What a life!
2 weeks ago, I said to Andy "Should we get a water table?" and we decided "no". Well, imagine our surprise when we went up into our garage attic and found our old water table! I thought we got rid of it when we moved, but most likely, one of our kind friends who helped us move figured we'd "need" it! Colin stood at it for a good 2 hours yesterday, just playing in the water!
Remembering those who died serving our country....and kicking off summer! What a great weekend!

Happy Summer!
