Summer, Week 11

Jayna Noelle Glynn
August 13, 2002
7 lbs 4 oz
The BIG EVENT of Week 11 this summer was Jayna turning 9!!!!

As most of you know...she does not like cake. This year, her "cake" was 2 long john donuts iced as a "cake" surrounded by little (fake) donut holes, which were really cake pops that Ellie could eat! Of course, there was a theme to this year's birthday...it was PINK...but then turned into a donut theme when we surprised Jayna with a donut balloon!

As customary, on the morning of a birthday, we serenaded the birthday girl with Happy Birthday To You and We Love You This Much...
Above, Jayna is getting a first look at the surprise left for her on the dining room table.
Since Jayna's birthday was on a Saturday and since her cake was a donut, we ended up doing the cake part of the birthday at 8am!
After we enjoyed our cake for breakfast, Jayna opened her gifts--
Some funny stories from this time:
1) Jayna wanted a Laura Ingalls doll from Conner Prairie SO bad but had already spent all her money on our trip. Ava purchased the doll for herself and then we were sneaky and got one of the dolls for Ava to give Jayna for her birthday (upper left photo below).

2) Colin knew Jayna was opening his gift to her...only he thought the gift was for him! When she opened it up, he said "But it's not a Wiggles toy!"
3) Ellie gave Jayna some friendship bracelet stuff...
and 4) Jayna got "fancy clothes" off her birthday wish list...

This next photo sequence was HILARIOUS.
One of the items on the birthday wish list was "stuffed animal with big eyes". Now, as the mother, I know we have WAY too many stuffed animals; there was no way I was buying her one.
But Grandma had an idea...
and in the cute turtle bag, there were 3 sizes of the big eyed monkey--it was like a clown car--she just kept pulling out monkey after monkey after monkey!

After gift opening, the girls and Colin enjoyed some dancing to their new favorite CD, the Hallelujah Hop (50's music with a christian spin)....

In the middle of the day, Jayna, Ava and I went shoe shopping and American Girl Store shopping (wanting?!) and then we went out to Jayna's restaurant of choice for dinner....Stevi B's! We ended the night with movie night watching "The Little Princess....it was a fun day!
BUT.....the weekend was not over!
Jayna had requested swimming in Omro for her birthday and on the 13th, it was cool and rainy! The next day, though, was beautiful!
For most of our time in the Omro pool, there were just a few other swimmers! We all enjoyed the slides and the refreshing water.

We didn't capture many pictures, but all 6 of us had fun! Click HERE to see Colin go down the little slide. After every slide ride (big or small), Colin would yell "I do THAT again!"

As for the rest of week 11...the only other things we did were school uniform shopping, school shoe shopping, family church directory pictures and Christmas pictures of all 4 kids. Yes, CHRISTMAS pictures! The church directory pictures turned out great but we didn't get individual photos of the kids. It just happened that I found matching Christmas dresses on mega clearance at the American Girl store that coordinated with what I had scopped up at for Colin after Christmas last year! We ran with the idea and had the kids photos taken in Christmas outfits in August! The photos turned out great...you'll have to wait to see for yourselves!

Stay tuned for week 12...Jayna's birthday was not over yet, depsite a full weekend of birthday fun!
