Do any of you have The Red Plate? I think we received it as an engagement gift or a wedding gift...I can't remember. Either way, it's about 13 years old now. It comes with a permenant marker and the idea is that when you use The Red Plate, you write the special occassion on the back. Our plate contains fun memories like "Excellent chef" (I wonder what yummy meal that was?!), "Katie's 1st claim", "Rachel on Thanksgiving" "Driving to our 1st home", "Andy's birthday celebration", "Rain Run", "Ellie's excellent playdate", "Ellie's encouragement at school"....and just last night, JAYNA received The Red Plate as a suprise at dinner.
Jayna has always been TERRIFIED of the dentist. When I say terrified, that is not strong enough a word. If she knows she is going, she will stew about it for weeks; she will verbally discuss why she should not go to her appointment, she is white knuckled during the teeth cleaning, and one hygenist even said to me once "I don't think she even breathes while she is here!". Yesterday, Jayna had a routine appointment and she was very nervous. We prayed before we went in and I had arranged for the most gentle, kind, soft spoken hygenist to clean her teeth. Jayna SURVIVED! And not only did she survive, but she tried new things (xrays!) and agreed to use the suctioner thingy next time she goes! She chatted nicely with the hygenist and as she was leaving, she said "THANK YOU for cleaning my teeth!". I told her I was going to video her saying that it was not bad, to remind her in 6 months that it's nothing to worry about. :)
Oh, and if any of you are starting to realize that all of the children's photos during dinner look like they are wearing their pj's...you are very observant! Our kiddos put on their pjs before dinner...so they have more playing time with Andy after we eat!
