Summer, Week 7

Week 7 was another busy week!
We started the weekend with a day trip to Door County. We love Door County! This time, we hit some of our favorite stores, ate lunch at Wilson's and then drove all the way to the tip of Door County! It was fun to see the huge ferry that takes people/cars across Lake Michigan!
We thought we'd be escaping the heat...but it was pretty toasty in Door County too! We didn't bring any towels or swimming suits, but the kids did enjoy a dip in the water with their clothes on! As we approached the tip of Door County, we found ourselves on a really curvy road (above photo, lower right picture). It was very cool and the kids had quite the time making "roller coaster sounds" as we drove the road!

On Sunday, Ellie participated in the last swim meet of the summer season. It was a super meet for her to swim! She swam 3 events, and below, you will see how she did in the 200 yd freestyle.
We were so proud of her! She ended up with 1 1st place ribbon, 1 2nd place ribbon and 1 3rd place ribbon from the meet! Above, you will also see Colin and the girls' reactions when I texted Andy the results after Ellie's 200 yd freestyle event. Andy was home with the 3 younger children...
and they were cooling off at Noodles for lunch and in our baby pools in the afternoon! It was a very fun day!

On Tuesday, Colin was sitting in the girls' jeep while I was watering flowers. Suddenly, I heard it GO! The next thing I knew, Colin was running toward me saying "Mommy! Car REALLY works now!" (Usually he sits in the jeep without the battery, so it never "goes" for him!) I pulled it out of the garage, turned the wheels all the way and off he went...around and around in a circle! On Wednesday, Andy and I celebrated our 15th anniversary!
About a month ago, the girls said "When are we going to Marlene's again?" My response was: "We were JUST there yesterday!" (I thought they meant Granny Marlene's house!) They clarified the need to get to the cake decorating store as they were planning something special for our anniversary. It was too cute--I drove them and hung out in the front of the store as they shopped for supplies to make something special for Andy and I! Here is the end result:
Sweet girls! We LOVE them!

On Thursday, we noticed the weather was going to be hot and sunny...and we planned a day trip to Two Rivers to the beach of Lake Michigan. However...we talked to a few people and nixed our plans--right now, there are a ton of dead fish washed up on the shores of the lake! Fishy smell, dead fish to play around....not so appealing to our family! We made a last minute decision to try Sunset Beach in Kimberly. It is a man made lake (no fish!) complete with slides and a diving well!
The big girls jumped at the chance to swim for the deep water passes and all 4 kids had a blast digging in the sand. Colin discovered how fun the slides were and he now is more brave them we are comfortable with in the water! Time for serious swimming lessons!
