STOLEN!

Remember this fun day...just a month ago when Ellie received this cool purple iPod for her birthday?

Well....sadly, she came home from swim team tonight SOBBING uncontrollably that her iPod had been stolen. WHAT?! Yes...it had been stolen from her coat at the YMCA...Yes, she had taken it to swim team when we had said "NO"....NO, she had not locked her locker....it was a great learning experience...but a very hard lesson to learn.

The outpouring of compassion from friends and family was tremendous! No one wants to see a child hurting and one of the most touching gestures of kindness was a friend whose daughter wanted to send Ellie her old iPod shuffle. (More on that later.)

Ellie really wanted the same iPod...so we came up with a plan....she could pay us some money, she could sell me gift cards from her birthday that I would use...and she would work off 1/2 the cost. The other part of the deal was that we'd have to employ Aunt Megan again to be our personal shopper off the Minneapolis craigslist. Let's just say that this experience showed us what Ellie is capable of....I've never known she could fold all the laundry so efficiently..and that she can empty the dishwasher very nicely so many times in a row....and the biggest money earner was this:
Remember how some neighbors did not care for their leaves like Andy did? Well, we had a lot of leaves hiding in the mulch and around the bushes. Andy paid Ellie generously to do this task and it was hard--a few hours in the COLD crisp air digging out leaves all by herself. She felt good doing it though and ended up accomplishing her end of the bargain much quicker than any of us thought she could!

December 31, 2011...
As for the dear friend of mine whose daughter wanted to GIVE Ellie her old iPod...it came at the perfect time--all we had to do was hook it up to our iTunes account and load it full of songs. Since Ellie has replaced her stolen iPod and since Jayna has received her Christmas iPod, there remains one little Glynn girl who feels left out not having any "tunes"....Ava is proudly playing the iPod shuffle with her choice of music off of iTunes. Thank you, Herbst family...for blessing our girls!
